The Presidents Blurb

Hi all! Hope everyone is having a fun and relaxing summer so far.
Building this year’s show is well underway, and we could sure use your help. We have something for just about everyone to do, no matter what your capabilities are. Whether you live in Sammamish, or in the south end, we have two workshops available to you. The Sammamish workshop is currently working two days a week and the Kent workshop is currently open weeknights at 7:00 p.m. The Kent workshop will also be open some weekends. Email me at Becky31ann@aol.com or the planning committee at planning.committee@Scare.com if you are interested in helping, or need directions/days/times to work parties.

We still have some sets that don’t have anyone to build and/or set design. We would hate to eliminate these sets, but might have to if we don’t have anyone to work on them. If you are interested in working on a set, but are unsure what to do, we can team you up with an experienced room builder/designer. They would be able to offer advice and help in any areas you are unsure about. Again, please let the planning committee know if you are interested. planning.committee@scare.com

Don’t forget to check out the newsletter for dates and times of classes, workshops, and other good stuff. Mark them on your calendar now, so you don’t forget!

We have a great show planned out this year, and some exciting effects in the making. Believe me when I tell you that this years show will have the best special effects I have seen in my 20 years of working in a haunted house!!!
Until October, be safe, have a great rest of the summer, and rest those vocal cords!!!!

Calling all Makeup Artists!

For those of you who would like to put your creative minds and hands to work making the creepy, spooky characters that perform each night, come join our make-up team! Classes will be held at the Beaver Lake Lodge at 3:00 p.m. on October 18th and 19th. If you are interested in acting, too - don't worry! Make-Up classes won't interfere with actor training and you are more than welcome to do both! Classes are mandatory if you are interested in doing makeup. If you have any questions, please call me at (206) 229-3195.

Dawn Gonser, Department Head for Make-Up

Security

Security’s responsibility is providing a safe environment for our staff and patrons. It takes a staff of many people to accomplish this. If you are required to remain on-site as the parent or guardian of a younger actor, working with Security can also provide you with a chance to see your young actor(s) at work. It is also an opportunity for those who would like to be involved in the show, but don’t want to act or do make-up, etc.

These positions are open to adults and to those youth, ages 16 and 17, with permission of the Security Chair. Training is mandatory for this position. If you would like to participate, training will be offered immediately following Orientation on:

Saturday, September 27, from 4-6:00 p.m.

Training will also be offered on Saturday, October 18 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Beaver Lake Lodge.

Curt Madden, Department Head for Security

Casting Update

Michelle, Crystal, Laura, Keenon, Janet, Rebecca, Kissaundra, Kayla and I want to welcome you back. Our department could really use some extra help. If you are a parent or designated adult staying on-site with youth volunteers and are looking for a job to do, or an adult volunteer who hasn’t decided on how you’d like to help out during the show, Casting can use you. It’s good exercise and a great opportunity to see the show. You will also perform an important service to our actors.

Please contact me at Renwickp@comcast.net for more information.

FANGS, FANGS, FANGS by Victor

There will be several vampires haunting this year’s show. Victor will be back again this year providing an opportunity for our volunteers to obtain fangs and tusks at special rates. Don’t settle for cheap imitations found in the stores.

Broken fang? Victor can repair them for you so they’re good as new. Vampires will be running rampant through the show this year. Here’s your chance to be authentic.

He will be at Beaver Lake Lodge on Sunday, October 19, at 10:30 a.m. An additional night may be added depending on interest. Signup sheets will be available at training. You can sign up then or you can email Penny at Renwickp@comcast.net with your request. Please provide your name, phone, email and desired items. If you need fangs earlier, you may contact Victor at 206 459-9220.

Prices this year are:

Upper fangs: $35

2 nd set Upper fangs: $30

Lower fangs: $25

Tusks: $85

Special Effects Opportunity

Ever want to be a part of a medieval siege? If you are a mature, responsible adult, here is your chance to work with the trebuchet! For those of you unfamiliar with this exciting war machine, it was designed to launch stones that would smash the walls of a fortress during a siege attempt.

Sound fun and exciting?

Specialized training is required. If you are interested, contact Curt Madden at curtmadden@aol.com for more information.

Hold Harmless Applications

Please remember that all volunteers working with the show need to complete a Hold Harmless Application yearly. If you have not already done so, we need yours. Applications will be available at the Kent workshop, Rotary meetings and at all trainings. If you have any questions, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Penny, at Renwickp@comcast.net.

Wardrobe Department: "Peasant Girl Costume Needs"

Here we are again. Another year has flown by, and soon it will be showtime. We can’t have a show each night without Casting, Food, Costumes, Make-up, Sets and much, much, more. Well, for the ones who don't know me, I am Pugsley: Head of the Wardrobe Dept. There are three of us that work in the Wardrobe Department – Raven, Hadijah and me, Pugsley. This year's theme is Renaissance - Medieval "Kings, Queens, Knights, and Peasants." And, that is where I need your help. We are looking for donations of any old, stained or ripped, peasant clothing for girls and boys (blouses, skirts) of any size and any color. Even if you can donate only one thing to wardrobe, it will be a great help.

Thanks for giving us your time and helping make each year’s show better than the last. "See you all very soon."

Pugsley, Department Head for Wardrobe

Save your ½ Gallon and 2 liter plastic Bottles!!!!!

This year’s exciting special effect, the trebuchet, requires a very large number of 2 liter pop bottles and ½ gallon plastic milk bottles (all with caps!), so save all you can. If you have an “in” with your local caffeine addict or barista, ask!

Actors Needed!

What is a Haunt without actors? Not very interactive and nowhere near as much fun! It takes the coordination of set designers, builders and makeup artists to design a beautiful show; security and the kitchen to keep it alive and kicking - but without actors, it doesn’t come to life. Last year’s show was an incredible success. Let’s do our part to top it with an even more successful year! This year’s haunt is a totally different show. There will be several fun and exciting roles available for you to use to scare your friends and neighbors. Bring your friends, your family – anyone with a desire to SCARE – we need you.

Actor Training: Actors who have been with the show less than 2 years must attend at least one beginning actor training class. Advanced training is available and recommended for all experienced actors. We strongly encourage new actors who are motivated to try more challenging roles, to attend at least one advanced actor training class. The advanced training will again focus on the specific characteristics desired for this year’s show.

All Actor Trainings will be held at Beaver Lake Lodge.

Beginning Acting: Saturday, 10/18: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Sunday, 10/19: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Monday, 10/20: 6 - 9:00 p.m.

Advanced Acting: Sunday, 10/19: 11:00 a.m. – noon

Monday, 10/20: 6 - 7:00 p.m.

All actors (new and returning) should submit your schedules during one of the acting classes
